Our Story

When we “feel” the body through yoga, classical pilates, mindful movement, breath awareness, meditation, and other healing modalities, we become more self aware. This process can lead to a freedom in the mind that helps us deal with obstacles holding us back from being our authentic selves. These obstacles may be self-doubt, stress, trauma, body issues, grief, addiction problems, lack of motivation— or any area in your life that you are willing to address and work on. Feel Free Yoga + Wellness Studio is a safe space for those seeking transformation in our community.

Janice Wilson is the founding creator of Feel Free Yoga + Wellness Studio in Athens, GA. Feel Free Yoga was created with the vision of sharing the benefits of yoga and providing a healing space. Janice’s inspiration for opening her business is her son, Wyatt. After Wyatt's passing in 2020, Janice discovered a common theme throughout her life: her love and appreciation for the discipline of Yoga and the healing it has offered her throughout her many years of practice. She decided to follow her soul and pursue her Yoga Teacher Training. Janice believes that one way to carry on her son's light will be by providing a space for others to become part of a healing and wellness community and to feel loved, heard and inspired.

Through the support of her two beautiful daughters Bailey and Kit and her amazing husband Wayne, Janice strives to provide a healing space for the community and for students to discover a new respect for themselves spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Janice received her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training through Yoga Farm Ithaca in New York, under the guidance of Daniella Hess, Christopher Grant and Jeannie O’Neill and 200hr Trauma informed Yoga Training under the guidance of Kelsey Wishik. Janice is a certified Sound Healing Practitioner and Grief Tending Facilitator. She loves leading Women’s Wellness Retreats and offering transformative travel for Women looking for community, connection and growth through self-discovery. Janice has a passion for bringing people together to learn, grow, heal and support one another.

“Feel Free Yoga + Wellness Studio is more than just a yoga studio. It’s a community where we each have the opportunity to truly be ourselves. At Feel Free, you will have access to the tools you need to become more self-aware and to get to know yourself on a deeper level, inspiring you to live a holistic and authentic lifestyle.”

The self-awareness and growth it provided her was so empowering that she decided to obtain her 200hr YTT through Yoga Farm Ithaca in New York in 2020. She is also a Certified Sound Healer Practitioner through Meditate: School of Mindfulness, and a Grief Tending Facilitator. Janice brings a sense of peacefulness and calm to her classes and helps her students realize that yoga truly can be for Every Body.

  • Brenda Neisler

    YOGA INSTRUCTOR

Brenda has been practicing yoga for many years and has discovered not only the physical benefits of toning and strengthening, but also personal growth through self examination and spiritual renewal. Brenda teaches a slower paced class that offers fewer poses and longer holds. She believes that this mindful movement allows time for connection to the body and the mind. She emphasizes safe alignment, the use of props and conscious breathing. Her goal as an instructor is to foster a sustainable practice that is greeted with kindness and curiosity and to help each student feel welcomed and loved. Brenda loves teaching yoga! She brings Southern charm, positive energy and genuine joy to her classes. As a retired educator, she knows the importance of life-long learning and is constantly reading and studying to strengthen her practice and help her students. Brenda is a 500 hr. Registered Yoga Alliance instructor with over 10 years of experience. She has additional certification in Slow Flow and Yoga for Osteoporosis. Brenda is married to her high school sweetheart and has two fabulous sons. She enjoys gardening, walks in nature, and socializing with friends.

Yoga has given me a deep sense of connection to a Divine Source that opens me to an infinite, unconditional flow of love. This awareness fills me with peace, joy and an assurance that “all is well” even, and especially, in the midst of the uncertainty and challenges of life.

In addition to teaching in group settings, McKenzie offers private Reiki and Life Coaching sessions. She moved from Colorado to Athens in October 2022 and is thrilled to be finding her community here at Feel Free!

As a teen she was attuned to Reiki I  & II, for over 15 years practicing mostly on herself, pets and with other practitioners in organized "Reiki Shares". In May 2021 she received her Holy Fire Reiki Master Certification and started offering private Reiki sessions to clients. The core teachers who have contributed to Sydney's personal and professional development include Susanna Barkataki, Sunaina Madhav Dasi, Swami Chidananda, Tara Dutt, and Jamie Hanson. • Erika Galloway

    YOGA INSTRUCTOR

Erika was introduced to yoga in college through many of her friends. The habit did not stick due to a desire to focus on her career in Graphic Design. After several decades of a high stress design career, Erika was drawn back to yoga as a way to de-stress. She began practicing yoga online and by watching DVDs of prominent well known yoga instructors.

In 2020, Erika enrolled in a local yoga studio. She was immediately drawn to the community environment and practicing yoga with fellow practitioners. After several months, she decided to immerse herself in a deeper understanding of the teachings of yoga. Erika enrolled in a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at M3Yoga. She quickly started teaching yoga after graduation. Her professional teaching journey continues as she has trained with Lucas Rockwood (Science of StretchingTM) and is currently working with Michelle Young on her 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification.

Erika’s approach to yoga remains focused on the balance between strength and flexibility. Her classes focus on Vinyasa Flow. Her students can expect to move, sweat, stretch and breathe.

  • Deena Futris

    YOGA INSTRUCTOR

Deena is a lifelong dancer who first experienced yoga in 2000. After having both her children she came back to the practice in 2014 when she obtained her 200 hr CYT from Five Points Yoga. The experience was transformative in a way that healed a lot of negative thought patterns that were established earlier in her life. Yoga is her tool that helps to heal the mind, body and soul. As a nurse for over 25 years, Certified Health & Life Coach (Health Coach Institute) and Certified in Reiki I & II, Deena utilizes these modalities to inform her practice of yoga and teaching from a place of mental, physical and spiritual alignment.

Deena also continues to dance and perform with The Studio Athens in Boulevard Burlesque Company throughout the year.

“Yoga gives me the ability to be grounded in my body and get out of my head. It helps to keep me aligned physically, mentally and spiritually.”

  • Estra Grace

Drawing from yoga, qi gong, dance, and somatic work, Estra has a passion for all forms of movement & mind - body connection.

She loves helping people feel at home and safe in their bodies. Her current goal is to bring the magic of ecstatic dance to Athens. Estra first found ecstatic dance back in 2018, and it has been part of her life ever since.

This is a transformative practice, shifting the focus from the external appearance to the internal experience.

Rather than dancing for the viewer, we learn to dance for ourselves and be guided by our own sensations.

See you on the dance floor !
