Joseph Pilates was a German physical trainer who developed the Pilates method in the early 20th century as a system to strengthen the body and mind. Originally called “Contrology,” his method emphasized controlled, precise movements, core strength, and breath awareness. Classical Pilates refers to the original exercises, sequencing, and principles Joseph Pilates created, using his original order and technique to preserve the integrity of his method.
